The hard part of running a pistol red dot on a full-size or compact carry pistol is finding the right window. The original EDC's 16mm window fits subcompact slides cleanly but feels small on a Glock 19 or a Walther PDP. The COMP's 27mm window is purpose-built for competition but adds weight and bulk most carry-class shooters do not want. The C&H Precision EDC-XL was built into that gap. A 22mm window for faster sight acquisition on a full-size or compact slide, in a 0.8-ounce single-piece 7075-T6 aluminum housing on the industry-standard RMR footprint, rated for +P and +P+ recoil and sealed to IPX7. It is the EDC line's answer to "I want the EDC's everyday-carry build standard, but on a bigger pistol where a 16mm window leaves performance on the table."

The EDC-XL ships in two reticle configurations on the same RMR footprint: a standard Red 3 MOA dot, and a Red Multi-Reticle that adds a 27 MOA circle around the dot for faster close-range pickup. Both variants drop directly onto any optics-ready slide with an RMR cut. If your slide is already cut for a Trijicon RMR or any RMR-footprint optic, the EDC-XL bolts on without an adapter.

The streamlined housing has no sharp protrusions to catch on a concealment garment if the EDC-XL ends up on a carry pistol.
• 50,000-Hour Battery Life. A single CR1632 cell runs the optic for over 5.7 years of continuous use on the lowest setting. Most owners will replace the battery roughly twice in a decade.
• Side-Loaded Battery Tray. The battery tray loads from the side of the housing, accessed with a small flat-head screwdriver. You can swap batteries without removing the optic from the slide and re-zeroing.
• Motion-Activated Shake Awake. The EDC-XL powers on instantly when it detects movement. No buttons to press in a defensive draw, no wake-up lag, no dead dot when you present.
• 10 Brightness Settings with NV Compatibility. Levels 1 and 2 are night vision compatible for low-light and NV-equipped users. The remaining 8 levels span typical daylight to full-sun conditions.
• Tactile Audible Adjustments. Elevation and windage clicks at 1 MOA per click, both tactile and audible. A meaningful difference from silent-click optics in this price tier when zeroing in the field.
• Wider 90 MOA Adjustment Range. 45 MOA elevation and 45 MOA windage (90 MOA total) gives you noticeably more zeroing latitude than the original EDC's 35/35 (70 MOA total). Useful when mounting on slides that are slightly off true or when zeroing at unusual distances.

• C&H Precision Optics Warranty. The metal housing and optical glass are covered for the life of the product against defects in materials. The LED illumination system is warranted for 5 years from the manufacture date. Registration with C&H Precision is required to validate.

A small honest note worth surfacing before purchase rather than after. A small minority of EDC-XL buyers have reported on the manufacturer's product page that the side-loaded battery tray screws can loosen under recoil if they are not properly torqued during the initial install or after a battery swap. Two such reports are visible on the manufacturer's customer reviews; in both cases C&H replaced or repaired the unit under warranty. The fix on install is straightforward: snug the battery tray screws firmly but not aggressively, and add a small drop of blue Loctite if you are running the optic on a high-recoil platform. Most owners do not encounter this. We mention it here so you have full information before you buy.

Full-Size and Compact Pistol Owners

The EDC-XL's primary audience. The 22mm window paired with the RMR footprint puts the EDC-XL on the full-size and compact pistol slides where the original EDC's 16mm window leaves performance on the table. Glock 17, Glock 19, M&P 2.0 (with RMR cut), Walther PDP, SIG P320 full-size or X-FIVE, Shadow Systems CR920 / DR920 / MR920L compacts. The 0.8-ounce weight is light enough to keep slide cycling reliable on a recoil-spring-tuned compact, the +P and +P+ rating is rated for the defensive ammunition full-size carry shooters actually run, and the integrated rear sight notch gives you an emergency co-witness if the dot ever fails. Range, training, duty, and home defense use cases all sit inside this audience because the spec stack supports all of them.

Concealed Carriers of Full-Size or Compact Pistols

For shooters carrying a full-size or compact pistol concealed under a cover garment, the EDC-XL is the larger-window option without going to the COMP's competition spec. The 1.78-inch length is at the upper edge of concealable on a Glock 19 or PDP under appropriate concealment, and the snag-free housing profile keeps the optic out of the way during the draw. The 22mm window means faster dot pickup under stress than the original EDC delivers on a full-size slide. This is a secondary audience because concealed carry on a subcompact is the EDC's territory and concealed carry with enclosed-emitter weather protection is the EDC Enclosed's. The EDC-XL is for the carry shooter whose primary pistol is full-size or compact, not subcompact.

Optic-Compatible Shotguns and PCCs

The RMR footprint is supported well beyond pistols. Mossberg 940 and 940 Pro shotguns, AR-15 builds where an RMR-footprint backup sight makes sense, and pistol-caliber carbines with RMR-cut receivers all accept the EDC-XL directly. The +P and +P+ recoil rating, IPX7 waterproof rating, and 7075-T6 housing carry over to non-pistol use cases without the user having to think about whether the optic is rated for the platform.

Night Vision Operators

Brightness levels 1 and 2 are NV compatible, allowing the EDC-XL to be used with passive NV devices without washing out the reticle on a host platform configured for low-light operations.

Compatibility

The C&H Precision EDC-XL uses the RMR footprint, the most widely supported full-size and compact pistol optics pattern on the market. The same 27 MOA circle and 3 MOA dot reticle stack carries across both variants; the only choice between the two is whether you want the standalone 3 MOA dot or the 3 MOA dot plus 27 MOA circle for faster close-range acquisition.

• Direct mount, no adapter needed: any optics-ready slide with a Trijicon RMR cut, including Glock MOS slides cut for RMR, Walther PDP, S&W M&P 2.0 (with RMR cut), SIG P320 X-FIVE, Shadow Systems compacts (CR920, DR920, MR920L) with RMR cut, and most other RMR-cut full-size or compact platforms.
